The Senate has decided to approve removal of 400 Ministries, Departments and Agencies, MDAs, over poor revenue generation.
According to reports, the scrapping of these 400 MDAs was suggested by the panel of the presidential committee on rationalization of agencies, led by Stephen Orasanye.
Senator Adeola Olamilekan, who is the Chairman of the Senate committee on finance, announced this on Wednesday, September 14.
Senator Olamilekan stated that the generation of revenue is very important to the administration, owing to the present economic state of the country, hence retaining 106 MDAs and scrapping 400.
The Senator made this statement in reaction to the revelation of the Director General of the National Biosafety Management Agency, Rufus Ebegba, who stated that his agency generated only 2 million Naira, which is three times lower than the 5 million Naira it generated last year.
This called for the adoption of the Orasanye led panel report, as the government investment of 500 million Naira which yielded such low returns.
Senator Olamilekan stressed that the government needs revenue for impactful budget implementation, particularly in area of projects execution, and can no longer afford to be dolling money to MDAs without corresponding returns on yearly basis.
