Ahead of the 2023 general elections, indications have emerged that candidates of the people’s democratic party (PDP) may be struggling to get any atom of goodwill from the people of Onuimo LGA, over what the people of the area have described as injustice and betrayal of trust, by the party.
In a post made on some Onuimo Whatsapp platforms by one Mr. Tony Iwuoha, he frowned at the PDP state house of Assembly candidate, Mr. Okwudiri Ukwuaku canvassing for Obinna Onwubuariri, who is the party’s house of Representatives candidate, in Onuimo. According to him, the 2023 house of representatives ticket of the party was said to had been reserved for people of the LGA, in line with the charter of equity and rotation of the slot amongst the 3 LGAs of Okigwe, Isiala Mbano and Onuimo.
In his post, he further expressed sadness over how about six notable sons and daughters of Onuimo spent their hard earned fortunes in the party, with the assurance from the party leadership, only for the former Rep member, Obinna Onwubuariri from Isiala Mbano whom the people adjudged abysmal in office to hijack the ticket with conspiracies from the leadership positions of the party. He revealed that ndi Onuimo have vowed revolt against, not just Obinna Onwubuariri but against Okwudiri Ukwuaku for raising the hands of whom took their rightful slot in the soil of Onuimo.
Another Onuimolite, Surveyor Ogoke Cornelius, in response to the concerns raised by Tony Iwuoha, described the outing of the PDP in Onuimo as “poor” concurred with his Mr Iwuoha’s submission. Stating that, Ukwuaku Okwudiri should have understood that ndi Onuimo need the Reps slot as much as they need the state assembly seat too. Reminding him that zoning gave him the leverage to emerge as the PDP candidate, from Okwe clan.
Our ChineduoffornewsRoundup correspondent, who digged further on this matter, discussed with two of the former PDP House of Representatives aspirants, from Onuimo, and they were of the same view that all the 2023 PDP candidates, including Okwudiri Ukwuaku will be humiliated at the polls, in Onuimo, come 2023. In the exact words of one them who pleaded anonymity: “You know my father in this land of Okwelle, I was raised by him alone, a great man who never tolerated that one should ever naked me at the public and then come to my house to cloth me. Never. As aspirants under PDP from Onuimo, we spent through our nose, we were taxed and over taxed, because of the assurance given to us over the house of Representatives ticket coming to Onuimo and they ended up insulting us. If the party really loved Onuimo and was sincere, nothing stopped them from disqualifying Obinna Onwubuariri from contesting that election, because he is a bad egg. We are going to insult them back.Our position on this is one,
next year PDP shall fail in Onuimo 5/5. Even LP stands a better chance than PDP, today”
Another influential personality who vied for the ticket from Onuimo, expressed regrets at the boldness of Obinna Onwubuariri coming to say “thank you” in Onuimo. According to him, the people will teach PDP a bitter lesson in Onuimo come 2023. He waved off the blame games that non of the Onuimo aspirants stepped down for each other, stating in his exact words “The party claimed that the ticket was already zoned to Onuimo, hence our resolution to vie for it collectively. If they were sincere that it was thrown open to all LGAs, ofcourse we would have stepped down to produce not more than two Onuimo aspirants, to challenge Obinna Onwubuariri.
I pity their state house of Assembly Candidate the more, because PDP is no longer appealing and he will surely bear the brunt as the supposed face of the party in Onuimo.Onuimo suffered injustice in the hands of PDP. He can’t win his election in Onuimo not because we hate him, but we need to send a strong political signal to other parties ahead of 2023. Even in their senatorial Candidate will lose in our Local Government, because his candidacy is also not in line with equity and fair play. APC did better with their choice of Okigwe senatorial Candidate “
Other commentators from Onuimo whose opinions were sort after, said that, PDP messed up its chances in Okigwe North federal with the choice of Obinna Onwubuariri, stating that, the elections in the area is now between the APC and Labour Party Candidates. They however, exonerated APC for giving Hon Princess Miriam Onuoha a return ticket, stating that it’s quite understandable that as incumbent she deserves a chance to give a second shot at the office and that no Onuimolite spent fortunes in APC for Reps ticket unlike the in the PDP. Even as Patrick Ndubueze from the old Okigwe/Onuimo bloc which has never been to the red chamber since the inception of mankind, was compensated with the senatorial ticket. So the APC played smarter and stood a better chance than the PDP in the three LGAs of Okigwe north federal constituency.
