In an effort to capture all complaints and put to an end to the inadequate power distribution and supply in Okigwe, Onuimo and Isiala Mbano, the Federal House Lawmaker, Hon. Princess Miriam Onuoha on 30th and 31st August organized a forum, where electricity stakeholders and the consumers who are the constituents cum Government officials converged to deliberate on finding lasting solutions to all related matters.
The event which took place at Okwelle civic center, Onuimo LGA, was a huge success and had Electricity agencies such as EEDC, NERC, NEMSA, TCN, NDPHCN and REA with their Technical team and Directors in East region, Port-Harcout and Enugu region etc in attendance.While the constituents who have complains that bothers on lack of poles, lack of cables, lack of transformers, unenergized transformers, high bills from EEDC, low current,
total black out for years etc took time to present all those reports before these technicians
All the President General of various communities in Okigwe North were present, as they took turns to present in verbal explanations and in written formats, the various electricity challenges that they are faced with, in their different communities to Hon. Princess Miriam Onuoha and the technical team/Directors of the various power agencies present.
The forum which was so unique, happens to be the first time of its kind to assemble great stakeholders in power generation in the zone, courtesy of Hon. Princess Miriam Onuoha. It was an engagement that proffer modalities on how best to resolve this electricity challenges in various towns and communities of Okigwe North.
The Governor of Imo State, Dist. Sen.Hope Uzodimma who was represented by his SA on Power and Energy, Hon. Sam Nwaire gave his remarks and hailed the visions and passion of HPMO towards her people. He assured of governor’s and state Government’s resolve to partner with her to end darkness and poor electricity supply in Okigwe North federal constituency, by supplying the needed electricity aiding items to communities that are in need of such.
The Governor’s SA on Power and Energy, who had worked in the power sector for over 40 years, with experience gave out professional ideas and advice to the agencies on the way to improving power supply in Okigwe North. He said their presence and all the information gathered will aid at ensuring solution to the issues at hand.
Hon. Princess Miriam Onuoha thanked all in attendance and used the opportunity to brief the people of Okigwe North of her activities at the Green chamber. She went ahead to reiterate on the event of the day, stressing clearly that her mission is to wipe our darkness in Okigwe North federal constituency.
She also complained over the long period of time it takes some of these agencies to energize transformers. Lamenting that most transformers she gave out in 2020 haven’t been energized till date, that such delay tends to constitute undue pressure from beneficiaries.
She revealed the efforts made by her in visiting the head offices of most of these power agencies, so as to get first hand informations as to why a city like Okigwe town has been in total black out. Good enough, those directors were on ground to attest to that, and give their responses on the way forward to solve the challenges.
The electricity agencies took notes and promised to act fast on facilities already mapped out for installation and replacement. It was resolved that the transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) will have a complaints desk at the Constituency office of Hon. Princess Miriam Onuoha at Isiala Mbano, where further feedback from the constituents shall get to them easily.
A committee made up of all community’s President Generals, Sole Administrators, selected powered stakeholders and leaders was constituted to follow up the process with action, until results are achieved. They will as well sensitize the communities to be watchful and prevent vandalism of public electricity generating items.
However, the program was adjourned to first week of December, 2022 When the people and power stakeholders shall come back again, to evaluate the positive achievements recorded within 3 months.
The forum was equally graced by Sole Administrators in the person of Hon. Chief Charles Ijezie ( Onuimo LGA) Lolo Nkechi Mbonu ( Okigwe LGA) Chief Joe Frank Ijezie (Isiala Mbano LGA). Hon. Engr. Patrick Ndubueze, the APC Senatorial candidate for Okigwe Zone made a brief stopover, various President Generals, development center coordinators, the DG of Princess Onuoha campaign Organization, Dr. Emma Mbanusi was also present, alongside many other eminent personalities.
